Woodrow Wallace was born on April 15, 1954, to the union of Fannie Mae
Johnson and Woodrow Wallace, Sr., in Prichard, Tunica County, Mississippi. He
moved to Memphis, Tennessee with his family while still a young child. He grew
up in Memphis with his ten siblings.
Woodrow received his formal education in the public schools of Memphis,
Tennessee. He attended Mitchell High School formerly known as Mitchell Road
High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Phoenix University and his
master’s degree from Argosy University. He also had enlisted in the United States
Army in 1972 and was honorable discharge in 1975. Woodrow was employed as a
Prevention Outreach/HIV Counselor and an Addiction Counselor at Prince
George’s County Health Department for thirty years and retired in 2015. At the age
of eleven years, he developed a lifelong love for golfing and excelled as an
awesome player. He also loved listening to music especially the Blues and Rock.
He loved writing poems and short stories in which he had published many books.
His most recent book is titled “Feelings”.
From his two unions (Geraldine and Rhonda), he has two children, Woodrow
Wallace III, and Princess Wallace. He has four grandchildren, Malik, Kianna,
Calista, and Dominica, and four great grandchildren.
Woodrow Wallace departed this life on Tuesday April 2, 2024. He was preceded in
death by his oldest son Jerry, his father, Woodrow Wallace, Sr., his mother, Fannie
Mae Johnson, and his stepfather Clem Johnson, as well as three sisters, Lula Cox,
Velma Cox and Rose Wallace Powell, and two brothers, Walter Johnson (Sonny)
and Tommy Lee Wallace.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his children – Woodrow and Princess; his
grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sisters – Daisy Clinton, Alprett Young,
Beatrice Wallace, Climmie Johnson Phillips and two brothers, Isaiah Johnson
(Natalyn) and James Johnson; special niece Thelma Jean Rimmer, and a host of
many nieces and nephews as well as other relatives, family and friends.
