Yon Hwa Lee Obituary (1932

Yon Hwa Lee, 92, of Linthicum, Maryland, passed away peacefully in her home on April 27, 2024. Beloved wife of James Hunbok Lee; Loving mother of Lucia Lee (Kun Lee), Peirce Lee (Melissa Oh), Catherine Kim (James Kim), and Eric Lee (Grace Kim); Cherished grandmother of Julia Lee (Chris Kahler), Jennifer Lee (Erik Javellana), Monica Kim (Eddie Kang), Eric Kim, Hannah Lee (Camilo Vanegas), Jamie Lee, Cara Lee, Aaron Lee, Angela Lee, and Alex Lee; and great-grandmother of Jayce, Estelle, and Emmett; Dear sister to Dominic Kim (Veronica Kim), Ki Sun Lee (Young Lee), and Jin Gu Kim (Ok Sub Shin); Preceded in death by brothers, Jin Oh Kim and Yong Woo Kim. Yon Hwa and James shared 72 years together in a wonderful marriage that started during the Korean War, a challenging time, and that evolved to a flourishing family life in Korea, followed by emigration to the U.S. in 1976. In the U.S., Yon Hwa and James worked very hard together, building a new life and businesses for their family and ultimately leading to a comfortable retirement. James always credited the family's good fortune to Yon Hwa. She was an avid gardener and a cooking queen. She loved spending time outside and cultivating her own vegetables and fruits, while growing the most beautiful flowers. No one could match her lovely roses. She always generously shared all of the fruits of her labors with family and friends. And without fail, she made sure that everyone who came to her house was fed. She was a devout Catholic, who lived fully the virtues of her religion. She actively attended church and was a parishioner at St. Andrew Kim Catholic Church. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and water aerobics, and also golf outings in which she drove their golf cart like a grand prix driver. She also spent a lot of time with her grandchildren when they were young and each of them has very fond memories of their grandmother's kindness and comforting thoughtfulness. Please join the family in celebrating Yon Hwa's life Wednesday (May 1, 2024) morning for Prayers at 9am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, at St Andrew Kim Catholic Church, 17615 Old Baltimore Rd. Olney, Maryland. In lieu of any donations, the family asks that you share an extra meal with a friend or family member, which is what Yon Hwa would have done.
